Communications Coordinator

The National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) seeks a hard-working, highly-skilled, talented, and committed individual to serve as the Communications Coordinator. This is a position for an individual who has experience in the areas of media relations and communications activities to develop and carry out comprehensive communications efforts that advance NAKASEC’s programs and mission.

Major Responsibilities Include:
•Coordinate media & public relations efforts including the preparation and distribution of press releases, issue papers, compiling comprehensive media packets, organization press conferences and media briefings, and other publicity materials.
•Maintain and develop relevant information on NAKASEC’s website for internal and external communication, information disbursement, and for public relations purposes.
•Manage and develop relevant information using new media for public relations and information disbursement.
•Provide writing and editing support to the NAKASEC staff in the development of documents, speeches, presentations, interviews, talking points, etc.
•Advise and support to NAKASEC and the centers on public and media relations questions.
•Provide speakers training and media development support to NAKASEC and the centers.
•Provide ongoing support to the Executive Director in all facets of fundraising and media activities.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or a related filed and 3 or more years experience in a communications enviroment which includes the following areas: writing press releases, promotional materials, and issue papers and organizing media events including press conferences and briefings. Required skills include: excellent capacity to relate well to others and processes; excellent oral communications, writing, and editing skills; articulate with media and other outside resources and supporters; effective collaborator; strategic and creative thinker; ability to work independently; prioritize multiple tasks; ability to meet deadlines; experience with long-range planning; instinctual, creative ability to frame issues accordingly & develop messages; and strong research skills.

Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with social justice and change issues. Experience working with ethnic, local, mainstream, and other forms of media. Experience with new media and multi-media. Fluency in the Korean language preferred, but not required.
