Action Alert: 6pm Vigil in Support of Elvira Arellano tonight at Federal Building

KRC Volunteers, Supporters and ORAnGE members,

please join us at a Vigil today Monday 8/20 at 6pm in front of the Federal Building to support Elvira Arellano and her family.

What: Vigil in Support of Elvira Arellano, her Family, and Immigrant Rights
Where: in front of the Federal Building in Downtown LA (300 N Los Angeles St, Los Angeles CA 90012)
When: Monday 8/20 at 6:00 pm

Elvira Arellano challenged deportation orders against her by seeking sanctuary in a church in Chicago in October of 2006, and later joined the New Sanctuary Movement. She came to Los Angeles yesterday to initiate a public campaign to move forward immigration reform, but ICE agents took her after a press conference, drove her to Tijuana and deported her last night. She is getting support from community members who accompanied her beyond the border and is still committed to the fight for immigration reform. There is detailed coverage in Chicago Tribune: Immigration activist deported, LAist and more.

Through the vigil we will show our support for Elvira Arellano and her family, and renew our commitment for immigrant rights and humane immigration reform, including an end to this horrible series of raids and deportations. KRC and NAKASEC will play poongmul along with participants from many other organizations.
