Day of DREAM Act-ion
Students drive the passage of the DREAM Act this coming week!

What:
LAUSD Board of Ed President Monica Garcia and Immigrant students will hold a press conference to advocate the passage of the DREAM Act (S. 770, HR 1275) as part of Richard Durbin’s Department of Defense Reauthorization Bill to be presented later this week.

When:
Wednesday, September 19, 2007 8:30 am

Where:
Los Angeles Unified School District
Board of Education
333 S. Beaudry Ave, 24th Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90017

Who:

* Monica Garcia, President of the Board of Education for the Los Angeles Unified School District
* Student representatives from local high schools and colleges.
* The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA)
* Yongho Kim, Korean Resource Center

Why:
As many undocumented students return to school this fall they fear that their dreams will remain on hold, that they could be forced to leave the nation they know as their home, and that their families may be torn apart due to unjust immigration laws. On Wednesday young immigrants will share their personal stories in solidarity with others across the country, including a student delegation meeting with key Congressional leaders, to urge the passing of the DREAM Act this year. Undocumented students have a real opportunity to benefit as Senator Richard Durbin moves to add the DREAM Act to the Defense Reauthorization Bill he will present this week.

Visuals:
Students dressed as doctors, astronauts, nurses and other professions they aspire to be, banners in American colors, students signing postcards and letters to Congressional leaders.
