LOS ANGELES, CA - In the year of Frederick Douglass's Bicentennial celebration, a project called The Frederick Douglass 200 (FD200) has been announced by the Frederick Douglass Family Initaitives and the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American Univeristy in Washington D.C. to honor the impact of 200 living individuals who embody the work and spirit of Douglass. After escaping slavery at the age of 20, Douglass became one of America's most celebrated abolitionists as he campaigned tirelessly against slavery.
Dae Joong "DJ" Yoon, Board President and former Executive Director of the Korean Resource Center (KRC) and current Co-Director of the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) who is currently on a year-long sabbatical leave, has been named as one of the FD200 awardees under "The Abolitionists" category for his work in community organizing and movement building in the Korean American, immigrant community and fighting against anti-immigrant legislation.
DJ Yoon has been listed alongside many inspirational leaders including Barack and Michelle Obama, LeBron James, Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, and more. All awardees will be honored at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. on Douglass's next birthday, February 14, 2019. The full list of awardees can be found on The Guardian.
