For the first time since the founding of Los Angeles, City Councilmembers voted to create the city’s first dedicated revenue source for affordable housing. With the historic vote today, Council adopted the Affordable Housing Linkage Fee (linkage fee), which will double the city’s annual affordable housing production for those most in need.

AAPI community members visited Senator Schumer’s office to ask for a stronger commitment to passing a clean DREAM Act this year in his role as Democratic Minority Leader. Upon entering Schumer’s office, the community members commenced a “Sing-In” with holiday themed protest songs to demonstrate a sense of urgency to Senator Schumer. Following the “Sing-In,” two senior staff from the Senator’s office met with the AAPI contingent and provided a space for them to voice their concerns.

Nearly 5,000 undocumented young people, immigrant rights advocates, and faith leaders congregated today at 12:00 PM at the Upper Senate Park for a rally in support of a clean DREAM Act and permanent solution for Temporary Protected Status. Events included: stories from directly impacted people, calls to action by members of Congress, and a civil disobedience on the steps of Capitol Hill resulting in the arrest of Congresswoman Judy Chu and Congressman Luis Gutierrez and 182 individuals, five from NAKASEC.
