“이민자의 꿈을 실은 대륙횡단” 의회활동 개요

모든 미국인들은 현행 이민 시스템의 개혁을 간절히 바라고 있다. “이민자의 꿈을 실은 대륙횡단” 주최단체들은 대통령과 의원들이 힘을 합쳐 포괄적인 이민 개혁 법안을 제정해야 한다고 생각하고 있다. 여기서 말하는 포괄적 이민 개혁 법안이란 서류미비 이민자들을 고통 속에서 구해내고, 가족을 재결합하며, 본국 노동자와 이민 노동자를 동등하게 대우하며, 아메리칸 드림을 다시 꿈꾸게 하는 법안을 말한다.

앞에서 말한 것처럼, 의회와 백악관은 향후 수십년 간의 미국의 진로를 변경시킬 새로운 이민법에 대해 심각히 고려하고 있다.

포괄적 이민 개혁의 기본원칙

1) 개혁

반드시 포괄적이어야 함: 제안안은 동시에 다음과 같은 내용을 효과적으로 포괄할 수 있어야 한다. 1) 미국에 거주하며 성실히 일하는 서류미비 이민자; 2) 미래의 이주 노동자 및 가족; 3) 보다 현실적인 정책의 목적에 맞고, 명확한 대상에 대한 효과 적인 법 실행의 필요성; 4) 커뮤니티 내에서 신규 이민자 들의 성공적인 정착 지원 정책; 5) 이민 절차에 있어 기본 적인 민권과 인권의 보장
