KRC Naturalization Workshop at Pio Pico Library

Los Angeles, CA: According to the most recent Department of Homeland Security statistics for 2014, out of the 190,000 Korean lawful permanent residents eligible to naturalize, only 7.7% about 14,600 have actually obtained their citizenship. In other words, nine out of ten people are giving up their right to acquire their citizenship. In 2017, a total of 14,643 Koreans obtained their citizenship and 5,057 of them were California residents. The same year, KRC provided free naturalization consultations to 3,350 people and assisted 880 permanent residents to apply for naturalization. In order to participate and vote in next year’s presidential election, naturalization will be an important task for many Korean immigrants.

In response, the Korean Resource Center will provide an all day free Naturalization Workshop on Saturday, April 20th at the Pio Pico Branch-Koreatown Los Angeles Public Library. This workshop will share information on the application process, provide free legal consultation, and assist in low income fee waivers.

In order to apply for naturalization, you must be 18 years of age or older, been a lawful permanent resident for 4 years and 9 months (2 years and 9 months if you obtained green card through marriage), and must have resided in the U.S. for 2 years and 6 months for the last five years (1 year and 6 months if you obtained green card through marriage).

You must contact the Korean Resource Center to make an appointment for the Naturalization Workshop. You will be informed of the required client checklist when you make the reservation. If you are not able to reach the office, please leave a voicemail with your name and phone number for a call back.
