For the Presidential Debates, we rallied and our DACAmented leaders spoke out

Before the debates, our leaders rallied to #FreeOurPeople!

Prior to the debates, our community leaders and advocates joined the #FreeOurPeople Rally!

NAKASEC was excited to join a rally with United We Dream, SEIU Texas, Texas Organizing Project, Workers Defense Action Fund, and Fight For 15 Texas where speakers talked about immigrant and worker justice, and demanded closing all detention centers.

Following the rally, NAKASEC joined these groups for a watch party of the Democratic Presidential Debates. Our communities watched as one to see if the candidates would uplift the issues near and dear to our people!

Watch our livestream covering the action here!

During the debate, our DACAmented leaders let the country know DACA is at risk.

On the evening of the Democratic Presidential Debate, September 12, 2019, four DACAmented young leaders from NAKASEC spoke out at the debate to uplift the upcoming Supreme Court case on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program (check out Vox's coverage of this moment).

On November 12, 2019, the Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments on the DACA and will have until June 2020 to decide on whether the DACA program will continue. This case will impact the lives of 700,000 undocumented young immigrants.

“Hearing that there wasn’t much spoken in the debate about immigration, we felt compelled to speak up and say something… We know over 80% of Americans support DACA but do not know the program is at risk. Knowing that millions of people were watching the debate, and since the upcoming Supreme Court case was not mentioned, we felt this was an important moment to speak from the heart.” - Esther, DACAmented leader with NAKASEC

“With the Supreme Court case coming, we felt that we didn’t have any time to wait and that this was a critical opportunity to speak up and let American public know that our lives are in danger.” - Jung Woo Kim, DACAmented leader with NAKASEC

We invite undocumented community members, allies and supporters to join us for activities to elevate DACA over the next month, and on November 12, 2019 for a rally in front of the Supreme Court. We will be both defending DACA and demanding a permanent solution that grants a pathway to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants!

Folks interested in donating in support of DACA recipients can do so directly at KRC's website - Support undocumented young people!
