SACRAMENTO, CA - Communities from both sides of the border held a press conference on April 10th, 2017 to launch the Caravan Against Fear - a historic three-week journey through California and across the southern border region to defend immigrant rights, keep families together, resist Trump’s cruel and racist immigration policies, and build momentum for May Day.

Throughout the journey, the Caravan will put pressure on legislators to pass expansive sanctuary policies for all, refuse to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), withhold funding for deportations or border wall construction, and restore constitutional protections to people living along the border.

Led by dozens of immigrant workers and allies, the Caravan will travel from California to Texas, combining direct action, like massive protests at federal detention centers with acts of mutual aid, like moving testimonials and community events, in order to defend immigrant rights, keep families together, resist Trump’s policies of hate and fear, and build momentum for a massive May Day strike on May 1st. The events coincide with Congress’ Spring Recess, building pressure on members of Congress to reject the Trump budget that takes from hungry seniors, financially struggling college students, and families in poverty to pay for his Wall of Shame on the southern border. The Caravan route can be found at https://www.caravanagainstfear.org.

At the conference, KRC Membership Development Manager Jung Woo Kim called his community to action saying, "I am here on behalf of Asian & Pacific Islander (API) communities, all undocumented people and immigrants, especially youth and young adults, also called DREAMers... We [undocumented young adults and DACA recipients] all went to public school and have paid taxes, but we do not receive the same benefits as other taxpayers. Wake up, youngsters! Rise up, community members! Let's fight for healthcare, federal financial aid, retirement, and citizenship!"

Jung Woo Kim will join the Caravan for the entire trip from April 10th, 2017 to May 1st, 2017. You can follow updates from his journey on KRC social media: Facebook & Twitter.
